At Paintpots Nursery in Newall Green, parents tell us that our children undeniably benefit from the reading out loud that regularly takes place.
As well as stimulating their imagination it also develops their understanding of the world.
Reading a story every day not only develops language and listening skills and their concentration it also gives them an enjoyment of books which will then continue when they begin to read and write their own.

We have been doing lots to encourage the children to read this week.
We have been supporting the BookTrust with their Pyjamarama campaign to ensure every child has a bedtime story. So every child in our setting will be taking home their very own book! Would you like to book a show around, to come and have a look at our nursery?
Each night this week a different team member has been sharing a video of themselves reading a story and posting it to our Facebook page to create excitement and encourage stories at bedtime.
On Friday we all wore pyjamas and did lots of activities to do with books and reading and nursery rhymes and every child took their own book home! Please click here to see more of our bedtime stories!

Preschool Poems
Preschool wrote their own poem about a dragon and had lots of fun making their own books! They also had a go at designing their own pyjamas to wear for their bedtime story and created story boards!
Toddlers Tasting
Toddlers did lots of activities based on the hungry caterpillar and had fun tasting some of the foods that the caterpillar ate! They also enjoyed reading a recipe and making chocolate rice krispie cakes!
Babies Texture Hunt
Babies had a teddy bear picnic where they shared their favourite stories and rhymes with their friends. They did lots of sensory activities and went on a ‘texture hunt’ based on their enjoyment of the ‘That’s Not My…’ books.

What you can do at home
You can continue to encourage your child’s love of reading at home by borrowing books from our home learning resources in reception. Children don’t just have to read books, they can read recipes, magazines, signs, recognising their own name, shopping lists, newspapers, anything!
We also do ‘Secret Reader’ at nursery where you can come and surprise your child by reading a story to your child and their key group! If you would like to come and read a story then please have a chat with your child’s key worker and arrange a time!
Happy Newall Green Nursery Parents!
We’ve had a great testimonial from one of our preschool parents that we’d like to share with you.
My child has been at Paintpots Newall Green since January 2017 when she was 11 months old. It was the first and only nursery I visited when looking for a place to send her. Straight away we were welcomed very warmly into the nursery and showed around, the staff were happy to answer any questions I had with confidence. She is now three years old, she has thrived within Paintpots. Her language skills are brilliant and her imagination, she has great social skills and confidence and loves going to nursery- so much that she asks to go on a weekend and her day off. She loves all the staff which makes me happy she has such a good bond with them, her key person is amazing and my daughter is familiar with all the members of staff in her room. I work within a nursery setting myself and couldn’t fault any of the practice within Paintpots Nursery in Newall Green. The regular parent’s evenings are informative and termly reports are always personal towards my child. Staff are good at handing over any information from the day. The meals are amazing and freshly cooked every day with plenty of variety.
