A £1 million early years sports fund has been launched to give every child in a nursery in England the opportunity to attend free sports and activity classes, which aim to combat the impact of the pandemic.
Day Nurseries reports that the fund has been created by Super Star Sport UK so that every nursery-attending child in England can take part in a sports and activity session whiteout the worry of how it will be funded.
Following a difficult year of lockdowns, the aim of the early years sports fun is to provide mental, physical, and social benefits to as many children as possible.
Founder of Super Star Sport UK, Angelo Ciccarelli said that following the pandemic and the multiple lockdowns of the past year, many nursery providers have been finically struggling, and the fund is to help support them.
“Not only have the settings been under pressure but many children may have become inactive through the lockdowns affecting their health and wellbeing,” Ciccarelli said.
“This is why we have launched the early years sports fund which will ensure that children across the country will have the opportunity to get involved in sports and activity classes fully funded for their setting.”
Every nursery and preschool in England can apply for access to the fun and the classes by filling in an online form, and, if successful, a representative from Super Star Sports UK will get in touch to arrange the delivery of the free classes.
The classes are approximately 45 minutes long and can cover almost every sport, including football, basketball, mini rugby, athletics, gymnastics, and basic fitness.
The fund ensures that 100 per cent of the costs involved are covered so that children can get the benefits of the classes at no expense.
